Jade rollers, which are handheld massaging tools typically made with one or two jade stone heads, allegedly boost blood circulation, reduce under-eye swelling, and help products absorb better into your skin.
"The roller itself helps remove excess fluid under the eye, while the cool jade stone constricts blood vessels to further minimize swelling," says Joshua Zeichner, director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. "They can be used by themselves or in combination with your regular under-eye creams."
To use a jade face roller, "move from the center of the face upward and outward so you are rolling the stone toward your lymph nodes, which promotes fluid drainage," she advises. "It's also been reported that this directional movement helps counteract gravity and lift the skin." Generally, the pressure from jade rollers is more minimal.
